Denovo Audio HC180-4 Hexcore™ 7" Woofer 4 ohm.

The Hexcore woofer from Denovo relies on a proven conventional ventilated motor style that's been combined with a revolutionary cone membrane. This innovated woofer uses a double sandwich hexagon membrane to maximize stability with minimal weight. The cone consists of an ultra-light honeycomb structure, coated on both sides with robust glass fiber composite and surpasses conventional materials such as paper, polypropylene, and aluminum. The result is an ultra-stable low moving mass with no bending or flexing of the membrane, even under high loads. The end result: almost no vibrations to give your project a distortion-free performance that and high fidelity audiophile would admire. The honeycomb structure gives excellent dampening for precise and dynamic sound reproduction at any frequency even in the most demanding 2-way speakers.

Product Note: I wanted to give recognition to a friend in regards to this woofer project.  The design of this woofer had input and suggestions from my friend Jeff Bagby. Jeff was known worldwide for his contributions to the DIY speaker building community and we all miss him very much.  After testing a few different samples with minor tweaks made, this was the woofer model he most impressed with.  Below are his comments before starting the Helix speaker kits.

  • Today I got acoustic measurements in the cabinet of the new 7" Hexcore sample. It had much less of a break-up peak and will be incredibly easy to work with. Cast frame, great appearance, exotic cone, and measure near perfect - these are $200 drivers anywhere you go. Motor, frame, and cone, are almost identical to the Etons but the hexcores may beat them. I'll know more later.
  • Your 7" honeycomb woofer is very easy to work with. I will say this, after taking measurements these are the woofers I wish were around for the Solstice speaker. They would have been a better choice. With only two parts I get baffle step compensation and a beautiful knee and roll-off. It keeps the parts count down and it's the way I like to do a crossover. Very nice.
  • This is what we were after. I wanted to show you how well that simple two part filter works on your woofer. I have attached a graph showing the actual measured response on a 8.5" x 15" baffle on a sealed box, and the response with the second order filer. An optimized filter looks pretty nice, huh? Perfect woofer Erich.

Highlights

  • Honeycomb membrane for precise impulse fidelity and impressive linearity.
  • Ideal for smooth crossover transitions to any tweeter, including ribbons.
  • Three layer hexagon membrane for lightweight but rigid cone.
  • Tight crisp bass allows for true full range 2 way designs.
  • Very linear frequency response makes it a gem for high fidelity speakers.
