Speakers in Limbo - Help Decide Their Future

Welcome to the Crossroads: For over 15 years we've worked closely with the DIY Audio Community to bring together dozens of speaker kits and products that many DIY'ers have asked for. From small full-range desktop speakers to highly customized home theater speakers weighing nearly 200 pounds each. It's been a labor of love and lots of hard work. The speaker kits you see in this collection are community-driven favorites that have sold okay and generated all kinds of buzz on Reddit, Facebook, and DIY audio forums. We 'think' you love how they sound. However, the speaker kit reviews have been nearly silent on this site and on our old DIY Sound Group site. Reviews help the entire audio community and help us know what to focus on in the future.

Bringing a speaker kit to life: It's a huge undertaking getting custom drivers, designing cabinets, and even getting custom shipping boxes. Our speaker designing friends then spend weeks calculating crossover slopes and months tweaking frequency responses to create truly amazing speakers. We invest tens of thousands of dollars upfront to source hundreds of woofers, tweeters, and components for every single run. Again, it is a labor of love and I've enjoyed it, but it is also incredibly time consuming work. Right now, our designer friends don't really get to see the impact of their hard work, and we don't have the on-site feedback I hoped for to justify the steep costs of ordering another huge production run of these particular models. Many kits have slowly gone away over the years due to lack of input. From the old Volt-6 and 1899 to the highly customized and $100k Vortex coaxial project.

Back in the hands of the DIY Community: In short, we really need to see more product reviews and photos on these specific speaker kits, or this will likely be the final run on these models or we have to change how they're sold. If you own one of these kits, please take 5 minutes to leave a review and upload a photo of your build. Show our designers some love, and show the community that these kits deserve to stay alive. Without your feedback, we simply have to assume it's time to retire these models and move on to other projects.
