HiVi S5N 5 Inch Midbass Woofer — With Installation Kit.

The HiVi S5N is a favorite in high-end active monitors from Swans, but it's a fairly new woofer in the DIY landscape. It looks great and also has some extensive engineering behind it so we wanted to offer it to the DIY community.

The cone of the driver is its specialized "PPF" diaphragm, which consists of a mineral-filled, carbonized polypropylene composite. This gives it an interesting, muted bronze appearance while reducing flexing under load. In the center is a smooth rounded phase plug that gives you much wider off-axis dispersion. The woofer utilizes HiVi’s proprietary Symmetrical Magnetic Field (SMD) drive technology. By centering the voice coil inside a perfectly balanced magnetic field, the driver minimizes voice coil inductance modulation, resulting in significantly lower harmonic distortion and improved transient control. The motor assembly features a high-temperature Kapton voice coil former and a fully enclosed, magnetically shielded dual-ferrite magnet.

It's a 5-inch midbass driver specifically optimized for clean dynamic performance in small, vented enclosures. With an Fs of 49 Hz the S5N works great in tight enclosures. It's optimized to reach a low-end F3 of 49 Hz in a small 6-liter (0.21 cuft) vented cabinet tuned to 52 Hz, making it a perfect choice for high-resolution desktop monitors or compact two-way builds.

To save you a trip to the hardware store, we include a custom-matched Installation Kit at no extra charge so you can start building immediately. Each S5N woofer you buy comes with a pre-cut gasket, two gold plated quick connect terminals, and four bronze colored screws for free.
